For some time now I have felt a stirring growing within me.
A lesson of truth my heart cries out for.
To behold the glory of our God.
I am unworthy.
And yet, here I lay –
In awe and wonder.
The week before our wedding I popped a blood vessel in my eye. From a simple sneeze, I watched as blood poured in. I was mortified. Every google search concluded in nearly three weeks healing. My eye was no exception and my dreams of "perfection" were crushed.
"Like a bride adorned for her husband," was now something I thought to be lost.
So consumed with my outward appearance, I failed to see the condition of my heart.
The covenantal love of our Father and the gift of marriage laid before me. How sweet it was. How foolish to take my eyes away from His beauty for even an instant.
And despite me, in His goodness and grace, my heart settled. Truth swept in and true healing began to take place.
Looking back, I am forever grateful for this incident. For it was truly a grace of God. If it had not occurred, I may not have been forced to take a step back and let the fullness and beauty sink in.
How sweet is our Lord. And how wayward my heart.
This is the question for which I am evermore needy.
The promise of peace, life, and joy lays before us, ready for the taking. Yet time and time again, we foolishly turn away.
Isaiah 55 says it this way,
"Why do you spend your money for that which is not bread, and your labor for that which does not satisfy? Listen diligently to me and eat what is good, and delight yourselves in rich food."
The invitation is open. The table is set. Where are we?
Our souls cry out to be enveloped in the glory of our Creator. This aching and longing within us reveals the severity of the situation.
It is of great importance that we learn to come before the Father and be filled by His glory.
After all, His glory is both the beginning and the end.
"In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth. The earth was without form and void, and darkness was over the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God was hovering over the face of the waters. And God said, 'Let there be light,' and there was light."
"And he who was seated on the throne said, 'Behold, I am making all things new.' Also he said, 'Write this down, for these words are trustworthy and true.' And he said to me, 'It is done! I am the Alpha and the Omega, the beginning and the end. To the thirsty I will give from the spring of the water of life without payment."
He is eternally our portion and our delight. Our only response– to fall on our knees in awe and wonder.
And so, Here I Lay, is an upcoming 6 month series based on the fullness of life in Christ–
To come before Him and feel our hearts satisfied.
My prayer is that you might join me in this series– that together we might come to know Him, love Him, rest in Him, and behold Him.
If this vision is one that stirs your affections, I hope that you will consider joining me on this journey. For more information, please see the Subscribe page.
